This level really surprised me, although I love the science fiction theme of organic environments, the thought of game areas based in such places fills me with dread.
Halo 3 breaks the mold by making its trek through the guts of an alien parasite one of the most beautiful levels. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, it sticks with good ol' spores, goo and sphincter doors, but unlike other games, it wraps everything in really tight art direction.
Speaking of sphincter doors! Seriously, why do game designers insist on using those? In my years of gaming I've passed through way more alien anus-doors than I'd want to in ten lifetimes.
